National Vocational Beach Lifeguard Qualification (NVBLQ)
The National Vocational Beach Lifeguard Qualification (NVBLQ) is a leading UK award for beach lifeguards, covering essential skills like water rescue, first aid and beach safety.
It’s the standard qualification for those looking to work as professional lifeguards on beaches, to surf coach at the highest standard and cover you to lead coasteering and paddle sports.
Fitness requirements: 400m pool swim in under 8 minutes. Be able to have good level of fitness and be comfortable paddling a rescue board in 4ft surf.
Course duration: 5 days.
Surf Coach Safety
Surf Coach Safety is a specialist certificate designed for surf instructors to operate in shallow water and assist on a beginner lesson.
Fitness test requirements: 200m pool swim in under 5 minutes.
Course duration: 3 days.
Surf Coach Rescue
Surf Coach Rescue is another course specifically aimed for surf coaches. This qualification allows a higher remit of conditions compared to SCS, permitting holders to go into deeper water, in waves deemed suitable within the customer and coaches abilities.
Fitness requirements: 400m pool swim in under 8 minutes. Good level of fitness and the ability to comfortably paddle a surfboard into 4ft waves.
Course duration: 3 days.
